Gustav, interesting you mentioned this because after my posted I found a recent link on DIY Drones on this very topic. I did what you mentioned except I closed the window, you are suggesting "don't close the window" before coping the files to \Program Files\Mission Planner.

I will try this again and follow what you have. Also, I have both Program Files and Program Files (x86), it seems MP is installing in Program Files (x86).

I will try provide an update later this evening.

Well, I made some very good progress. I was able to safe the joystick configs using your directions, I will work on this more over the weekend and complete the configs. I was not able to setup loiter, RTL, Manual or cruise, see below as I am able to same those configs.

However if I select "settings" the option to select loiter, RTL and others are there but I see no way to actually save them.

Any thoughts?

OK...I was just informed that by sellecting the "Settings" button you will be taken to another screen. In that screen there is no save tab, and when you make a selection, RTL for example it will not show on the main page. However, it will be saved once you select "save" as Gustav stated. I will work on this some more and update my results.

Yes exactly, when you have ChangeMode as the action, the sub-setting will not show but it should change. You can verify by opening the joystickbuttonArduCopter2.xml file with wordpad. In your case, it should look like this

.... And so on. And if it does not save, you can always edit it by hand. It's pretty easy if you just look at this above.

All, I have a joystick config for my drone using APM 2.5 and in MP is see the foloowing:

If the joystick is configured, why am I getting the "PreArm:RC Not calibrated" error? Also, the GPS is connected and I have "GPS: No Fix", why is this?

I'm also trying to testing the motors with a working joystick, however I'm not able to with the below error.

Also, trying to calibrate the motors with throttle up have also failed.

Help appreciate.

First you need to calibrate your controller. Go to initial setup - mandatory hardware to do it. This is something you must do wether you use joystick or a radio.

GPS is simply because you dont have good GPS signal. You will get GPS signal when you put your copter outside.

"Command was denied by the autopilot" is probably because you have a safety switch you haven't pushed in yet. If you don't have a safety switch, make sure your parameter BRD_SAFETYENABLE is set to 0. I don't use APM so I'm not sure. Google it!

I do have "BRD_SAFETYENABLE" in the Adv Parameters, however I unselected "ARMING_CHECK" in Std Parameters. It cleared the "PreArm:RC Not calibrated" and the "Command was denied by autopilot" erros. However, I'm still not able to conduct a Motor Test in MP. I know the morors are good and I know the MP knows when the motors are not connected as it will give me a"no communication with motor error". When I connect back the motors, MP will not give me a motor error. It simply will not sping the motors from the Motor Test tab in MP.

Yes...battery is connected. Checked again, still unable to find BRD_SAFETYENABLE.

Here is an alternative to the RC for those interest in using the joystick. Gustav mentioned a way to calibrate and safe the setting, here is another.

Follow this link, as you can see, a blogger who had the same problem as we are discussing right now started a session to get help on saving the joystick settings. Michael Osboure came up with a "streamline" fix, which was to simple update MP with the latest beta firmware. See link below and scroll down.

All...I am using the TTL connection via RPi 3. I have a clean coonect but unable to conduct a motor test.

The Adrupilot APM board is fired up and red/blue light are flash. Connected to MP, I should be able to conduct this motor test, anyone had this issue that can assist?

Nevermind, I reverted back to traditional RC/Reciever and I'm not able to spin the motors from the tab above. I'm able to Arm/Disarm as usual but not able to do so with the joystick. Will switch back to the joystick over the weekend and give it another try.
