Every operator has different APN name, so I don’t think "internet.public" will work for you.

How did you configure your VPN link? Are you running a VPN server at home, and connect GCS and Drone to that server? Or direct link between aircraft and GCS?

Yes you are right. based on my research there is no way to fix this with T mobile.
Fro VPN there is two way to do it.

VPN server : which is easy you go to your router setting activate the vpn server, choose the protocol, create user name password for the client(s), set the local ip that vpn server will asign to vpn clients and then you need to remap port forwarding to this vpn client ip.
The ports that you use for telemetry and video.Dont Forget the select proper protocol for port mapping I choose both udp and tcp. Next you need to establish a vpn connection at GCS.First connect to internet with your 4G. Then setup your vpn connection to your home vpn server. You still can use dynamic dns instead of IP for vpn server address.
If your router doesn't have vpn server feature you can use your home pc as vpn server. http://www.howtogeek.com/135996/how-to-create-a-vpn-server-on-your-windows-computer-without-installing-any-software/

But dont forget to map the vpn port your PC which is going to be vpn server. And don't forget to turn it on when you are going to the field.
As long as you connect to vpn the GCS will take your home ip address and if the ports mapped properly to the vpn client ip in router, the rest of the steps are exactly as you described at your tutorial. I had better results with lower video bitrate (200000) and lower frame rate. I think because upstream speed is too lower then down stream in home cable internet thats why the latency is unpredictable.

I would like to see your results with vpn. Please let me know if I can help. On the paper the latency shouldn't be that much. If you have a better upload speed with your home internet then your test will help me to see if this is my problem.

I will try this tonight. Can you tell me what firmware you are running on your E3276 ?
My E3276 will assign me an internal IP address, that's different from my external address. I believe that has to do with it being HiLink.
I also have a second E8278, same as on my UAV. I can access the firewall settings as well as port forwarding (virtual server) but so far I couldn't get it to work. I will try with the E3276 tonight.

Hi Brent,
My default install on my RPi (according to Emlid’s instructions) came with DASH as the /bin/sh default shell.
Therefore all of your sh scripts fail to run, mainly because their functions are configured for BASH shell.

Should I change my RPi’s default shell to BASH (from DASH) or should I try and restructure your scripts for DASH compatibility?
What would you suggest? Any thoughts on this?

I never had any issues running those Bash script in RTK image provided by Emlid. I never tought about their using Dash shell.

Hi again,
Mainly the function commands are failing.
For example, using:

function CheckOnline { ...}

gives an error saying that function CheckOnline is not found.

But when I change it to: CheckOnline () { ...} it works fine.
you can change between DASH and BASH using:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash
btw, your work is amazing...!

I installed the RTK image 20150401.img myself and used those scripts just couple of weeks ago wothout any issues.

I will do some further test on this one, and if neccessary restructure my scripts.

It appears my last post didn't go through, I apologize if this is a duplicate. I have 2 questions:

Can I use the following to connect NAVIO2/RPI2 to GCS? I have a Verizon JetPack (hotspot) I'd like to use on the NAVIO/RPI2 end and my phone as a hot spot on the GCS side. I have both and altready pay for the data, I figured I could use as a test connection for now. As long as the APN/IP/PORT works out is this feasable?
Would it work to use a smartphone (Samsung/Adroid) running 3DR Tower application via UDP to get telemetry from a NAVIO/RPI2 running APM instead of a laptop?

I hope to load UAVcast on my RPI2 this weekend. I've been running a Y6 with Pixhawk/APM and new to this kind of setup but looking forward to getting up and running. My NAVIO2 is on order and due in a few weeks,

I'm using my Verizon Jetpack and a wifi dongle in my Raspberry Pi in my plane along with my Futaba 2.4 GHZ receiver and so far have not had any cellular or 2.4 GHZ issues at all. My receiver is literally sitting right on top (touching, in fact) of my jetpack. One thing I did do was attach a 2 watt booster to my Futaba transmitter. I really don't know if this is necessary or not, I just thought it was cool. 720p video via gstreamer and telemetry is great! I'm using a serial to ethernet converter also, its great!

Did you have to make any changes to the Jetpack or just look up the APN/IP/Port info? I assume you just put in the network info and passord in RPI2 config? Congratulations on your setup, it sounds very cool and thanks for the feedback and help. This looks like an awesome board and glad I found it.

Has anyone used this with multiple drones in the air?
Do you think it will be feasible to have 5-7 drones in the air concurently, where each one has its own 4G modem (and simcard) and all of them are connecting to the same GCS which also has a 4G connection and is running Mission Planner?

I know Mission Planner can handle mutliple drones, but I've only seen cases so far where antenna trackers (one for each drone) are used to get MAVlink to the GCS.

Any comments?

I'm working in a project to study the different ways to control drones.
This is research work to finish my last year in the highschool. At this moment I control my quad with RC, with RPI2+Navio2+APM Planner2 and a FlySky 6CH.

The next step is avoid the RC (virtually) and control the drone via WiFI ... and the last step is using 4G. At this point, I understand the theory but I have some questions:

I understand that is possible to transfer telemetry & video over TCP/IP, UDP & gstreamer. But, how can you send the control parameters to the APM firmware without the RC? Are you using a radio control attached to the APM Planner 2 to send it?
If you respond "yes" to the last question: How can I send MavLink commands to the APM firmware using TCP/IP connection?
