E3372h modem issue

I can't get my Huawei modem to work.
Red led will not get green.

Does the modem work if it is just plugged into your computer for cellular internet?

No, i sent it back and today i got a new functioning one.

Now i have other problems. I use this on QGC Android. Video is just not usable...maybe it is brandwith issue?
I do not see it this way, only see grey video...

I use Mission Planner so I can't help with QGC. However, do you have QGC setup for the video on port 5600

drboulanger yes, of course.
On home wifi, via zerotier, it is ok.
Under LTE, via zerotier, it is unusable.

ask21 As there has been several people with the same issue you are experiencing, i have asked QGC team to fix the issue. This issue only occurs for some people and i belive its releated to the cell vendor firewalls in correlation to the NAT traversal technic used by Zerotier.

However, this can easily be solved by added few extra plugins to the video pipeline. Lets hope QGC will act accordingly.

Until then, i would recommend to use standalone gstreamer application to view video, or use Mission Planner.

Sinamics i would like to use mission planner.

(Un)fortunately i use to fly in remote areas that i reach walking one hour too. I refuse to take a laptop with me...also its battery time wouldn't satisfy my drone flight time.

This is why i choose a smart software like yours and QGC to run on my smartphone!
I also use to use a joystick plugged into an OTG to my phone's usb.

So at the moment i only can use telemetry and fly it by auto mission. At least i can follow it the whole flight, not only the 14km i get on 100mw 3dr radios...

But it's not the same when you pilot and see...for a lot of reason you can easly understand!

I hope on the next QGC update we will get better video stream on Android too!

ask21 Fully understand.
This will affect the android too i belive, but you can try and see.

There might be a workarround.
You can try to change the APN name in your USB dongle which will give you diffrent network connection.
Search for your operator name and APN names.

You need to plug the HiLink into your PC and open the network settings.
You should be able to add custom profile.

Username and password are normally empty.

Sinamics yes, i know 3 APN for italian TIM operator. I will give them a try!

Would TCP connection do any better in video?
When i setup it under camera page and than in QGC (android) i don't get any video. I think i do it the right way...

ask21 TCP wont work in QGC. Only Mission Planner and standalone app.

I did some research on my end and i actually manage to get the grey screen myself.
My operator is Telenor Mobile, and i found all the available APN`s and tried everyone to see if i could re-produce the same behavior as you experiencing with grey overlay.

Im streaming from my RPI3 with a HiLink modem towards my Mobile phone with QGC.
When i use the APN telenor.smart in both USB modem and my phone i actually get the grey overlay. I belive this is a more secure network as its named smart 🙂

What i discovered was that i only needed to change the APN on my phone to get rid of the grey image. Changing my phone to any other APN names solves the issue.

So for your end, try to change the APN on your smartphone, and see if that makes any diffrence.
