Hmm, quite interesting, as I didn't have any problem. But I have to admin my network is special. Maybe I could try it out with public ISP.
I will check the data format tomorrow when I get to work. It'll be interesting to see, as I'm using the default one. One thing that came to my mind is, just to check, that you're having 4G connection & dongle? It might not work with 3G. I have to say I am quite a newbie with these usb dongles, especially in Linux.
I was originally able to do most of the things by using Sakis3g with verbose mode or similar. That showed some "magic" happening in the background, which I copied and was able to make things work. But it was all about modeswitching.
I think I have been able to connect some times manually, but the automatic network interfaces pre-up is the best way. I also realised that my connection problems were because my 2A power plug wasn't enough if I had monitor and keyboard attached.
Btw, did you also add those wwan0 inet ... stuff to the network interfaces, or to the corresponding configuration, if you have some other network manager in use?
