Has anyone used this with multiple drones in the air?
Do you think it will be feasible to have 5-7 drones in the air concurently, where each one has its own 4G modem (and simcard) and all of them are connecting to the same GCS which also has a 4G connection and is running Mission Planner?

I know Mission Planner can handle mutliple drones, but I've only seen cases so far where antenna trackers (one for each drone) are used to get MAVlink to the GCS.

Any comments?

I'm working in a project to study the different ways to control drones.
This is research work to finish my last year in the highschool. At this moment I control my quad with RC, with RPI2+Navio2+APM Planner2 and a FlySky 6CH.

The next step is avoid the RC (virtually) and control the drone via WiFI ... and the last step is using 4G. At this point, I understand the theory but I have some questions:

I understand that is possible to transfer telemetry & video over TCP/IP, UDP & gstreamer. But, how can you send the control parameters to the APM firmware without the RC? Are you using a radio control attached to the APM Planner 2 to send it?
If you respond "yes" to the last question: How can I send MavLink commands to the APM firmware using TCP/IP connection?

Hi Oscar.
I dont know if i understand your questions correctly, but all communication is transferred by the telemetry stream. You can connect APM planner or Mission Planner to the cellular Telemetry stream and send/receive commands as you normally would do using any regular radio transmitter.

From what I see, here in the U.S., AT$T, T-Mobile and Verizon will only give out a public IP address to business customers for $500. Certainly not IoT friendly. However, Sprint will give out a public IP address to consumers, so I will try that next. I may try the VPN solution to determine the latency using my AT&T service

the only thing that is bother me is that the VIDIOC_S_INPUT , i dunno why it fails

probably beacuse the device=/dev/video0 does not exsist.
You could check if the device is located in dev folder.

ls /dev
